Join us for a Valentine's Week reading with poets Hiram Larew and Ann A. Philips, hosted by LindaJoy Burke.
Hiram Larew's work has appeared in journals, books and collections, most recently in Little Patuxent Review, FORTH, vox poetica, Lummox, Poets & Artists, Every Day Poems, Lunaris Review (Nigeria), Amsterdam Quarterly, Honest Ulsterman, and The Wild Word. Author of three collections, he’s been nominated for four national Pushcart prizes, is a member of the Shakespeare Folger Library’s poetry board, and organizes lots of events in Prince George’s County and beyond. He is a global food security specialist, and lives in Upper Marlboro.
Ann A. Philips taught writing and literature, worked as a psychotherapist, and has been a National Zoo reptile house guide. Her middle-grade novel If You Believe in Mermaids, Don't Tell (Dog Ear, 2007) supports GLBTQ youth. Her poems have appeared in Borderlands, Green Mountains Review, The Sow's Ear, Gargoyle, Big Muddy, Little Patuxent Review, The Humanistic Psychologist, The Delmarva Review and elsewhere. Born in Columbia, Missouri, she now lives in historic Washington Grove, Maryland.
All are welcome. We encourage you to participate in the open mic. Please prepare no more than five minutes of performance time/two poems. Sign up in advance by calling the Columbia Arts Center, or when you arrive. The number is 410-730-0075.
Light refreshments will be served. Books by both featured authors and open mic readers wil be available for sale.
