Join Baltimore DSA's People of Color Caucus as we discuss efforts on creating a campaign to replace a statue at Mt. Vernon Place, where a monument to Roger B. Taney formerly stood, with a person of color, move forward on planning a record expungement clinic to take place this Fall for returning citizens, and brainstorm general ideas for engaging people of color in Baltimore through a socialist lens.

We will also begin a book club discussion on Michelle Alexander's seminal work «The New Jim Crow» to reflect on the role mass incarceration plays in Baltimore City. At this point, we have not yet provided copies for all group members, so we would kindly ask that, for now, you seek out the book at a local library, which should have ample copies.

The first two chapters of The New Jim Crow will be covered for discussion during the meeting.

Please contact Phillip Clark at 443-469-7348 or [email protected] for further information.

************************************************

In concert with DSA’s national AfroSocialists and Socialists of Color Caucus, the Baltimore DSA People of Color Caucus aims to meaningfully engage communities of color in Baltimore, forging outreach and activism efforts to confront social, economic, and legal challenges faced by residents.

For centuries, the exploitative system of capitalism has disproportionately marginalized people of color in the United States. The POC Caucus is devoted to empowering the Baltimore DSA towards becoming a group that visibly reflects the demographic reality of Baltimore City as a majority African American metropolis.
